A warm, cosy café on a dark, autumn afternoon. Our customer appears already to have been served – but catches the waiter’s attention once more. The remainder of the story – if indeed there is one – is whatever you’d like it to be!

'A Certain Smile’ contains several subtle compositional references to ‘How am I to Know?’, such as the positioning of the table, flowers and dried arrangement. The globe pendant lights can be glimpsed through the window in the first painting.

The original is now available through the Acorn gallery, and a limited edition of 25 signed prints is available from the Acorn and other gallery outlets; a full list is on the ‘Contact’ page.
