I have frequently cited Edward Hopper as one of my abiding influences, and I think that this painting is nearer to him in spirit than anything I've done in a while. Compartment Car (1938), Hotel Lobby (1943) and of course the seminal Nighthawks all pique our curiosity about their respective protagonists; all appear lost and lonely, but could be quite the reverse. As ever, whatever story you construct around the scene I present to you is the right one!
