The song The Nearness of You was written in 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael; it was recorded by just about all the great artists of the mid-twentieth century and still features in the repertoire of contemporary singers. My personal favourite versions are those by Sarah Vaughan and Harry James. It seemed an apt reference to the gently intimate moment we see here.
